Registration of electricity supply

The companies in charge of registering the electricity supply are the distributors. There is a deep-rooted belief that it is the distributors who take care of these formalities, but the person we should talk to is our supplier or investigate which supplier is most convenient for us and let them manage everything.

As a user, you may need to register your electricity supply. Whether it is a new home or premises for a commercial activity, the first step is to find out if the home has an electrical installation or not.

If there is no electrical installation, you will have to carry out the necessary work by contacting an electrical installer who will give you a signed paper authorising that everything is correct. This document is known as an Electrical Bulletin and it has a cost apart from the work carried out.

If your home or premises already have an electrical installation, you only need to register for electricity. You can do this in person or by telephone.

Signing up for electricity is a simple procedure that requires you to present the holder’s personal details, such as ID number, address and the account to which the bill is to be paid by direct debit.

You will also be asked to present the certificate of the electrical installation mentioned above, i.e. the Boletín Eléctrico (Electrical Bulletin).

If the situation arises in which the electricity installation has been done but you do not have the bulletin or it is out of date, you can call an electrician to check it and give his consent by signing the bulletin.

Another necessary document is the CUPS.

The CUPS is the document issued by the electricity distribution company when you register for the first time.
