Surplus compensation

Have you heard of the surplus compensation?

More and more people are choosing to install solar panels on their businesses and homes to reduce their electricity bills. If your solar panels generate more energy than you consume, you can now choose what to do with it.

Depending on your needs, you can choose from several options:

Store

By installing virtual batteries, you can store energy and use it the following month.

Redirect it to

You can also send it to another of your homes, thus saving on its consumption.

Dump it to the grid

You can choose to feed it into the grid and receive a discount on your next bill.

Surplus compensation

What are the requirements for surplus compensation?

To be eligible for surplus compensation, you must have solar panels installed and your PV system must not exceed 100 kW. If it exceeds 100 kW, you can apply for compensation as a renewable energy producer.

The value of the kW will vary in relation to its market price, as it is a fluctuating value, but it will always be a lower price than the price contracted in the electricity grid and will depend on the distributor, as each one has its own price.

Neighbourhood communities will also be able to sell the energy generated by their panels and not consumed. When this energy is sold to the grid, the supplier will pay them a credit, as they are selling energy that they do not consume.

They will be able to apply for their surplus compensation after signing a contract with the supplier assigned to them according to their geographical location.

Companies make savings with this modality

Businesses can benefit from this because, if they have solar panels installed that generate a lot of energy, feeding it into the grid can save a lot of money on their annual costs. In addition, companies that take advantage of this new possibility are contributing to environmental sustainability, as they are not only consuming renewable energy, but also producing it for others by feeding it into the grid.

Renewable energy is one of the most important measures to reduce climate change and our carbon footprint.

Example of surplus compensation

Suppose your company produces 1000 kWh of solar energy per month, but only uses 800 kWh. The remaining 200 kWh are exported to the local electricity grid. In this case, your company can receive compensation for the 200 kWh exported.

The amount of compensation may vary depending on the country or region where your company is located, as well as the local energy policy. For example, in some places compensation may take the form of credits on the electricity bill, while in others a fixed amount is paid for each kWh exported.

In either case, surplus compensation can be an effective way to maximise the return on investment in solar panel installation and reduce your company’s energy costs.
